Why Pay More For Using the Same Roads?

Why Pay More For Using the Same Roads?

Dear Editor,
I feel the road tolling programme is a duplication of taxes. Why should people pay twice for the same service? The road tax system, I believe, is meant for the building and maintenance of roads. With prudent management, money thus collected is supposed to be sufficient for all the road needs of the country.
Why again should road users be subjected to tolling fees for using the same roads for which they pay road tax?
The tolling system should be optional, an alternative system where the RDA builds alternative roads which could be shorter or better which motorists can opt to use to save time.
To have the tolling system running parallel to the current road tax system for the maintenance of the same roads is a duplication of taxes and just places more burdens on the already overburdened taxpayer.
Concerned road user,
Lusaka

NEZ ..when the UPND come into power this August. Are you going to remove these toll gates? to avoid paying more?

For us in upnd Another alternative might be to improve road network planning and quality while also having a very strict car road worthiness regime in place. This would give justification for collecting money from road users.

This concerned road user is very dull.
You are the same id*ots praising South African roads and do not hesitate to pay rands.
We have to make such bold steps to develop the nation. The toll fees will enable RDA do regular maintenance of roads as opposed to waiting for funding from Chikwanda’s myopic budget.

NEZ you are the one who is very useless and a dull dunder head hyena. Are you really normal to say most of the accidents that happen are due to poor state of our roads sure? Forinstance, the recent accident involving the Mazhandu bus services happened because of not following traffic rules on the part of the driver. At that area, where the accident happened , there is a curve and there is a sign which is clearly visible and marked 80 km/h, and it was raining then the driver was over speeding hence he lost control of the vehicle, he ignored all those factors and this is what caused that accident. If you are not happy with our roads just pack your bags and go back to your village, your father’s animals have missed you. You are used to live in the bush. Wanya! UPND will never win this year’s elaction . Go and hang your self.

frost you’re the one who has little exposure.south africa has a lot of alternative routes and its optional, i can say that old roads in rsa are alternative routes and new roads are toll routes or freeways.do you have freeways in zambia?foolish/vipuba pf idea of installing toll gates on the roads which our fore fathers payed tax for already instead of building new freeways and press toll gates on them.

  13. wakalijo   April 8, 2016 at 7:08 pm

    NEZ is always right.

You can also make your alternative road idiot. Little knowledge is dangerous for sure. You talk alternative roads just because you heard some guy talk about it. Alternative roads you talk about are meant for the people in the locality of the toll gates like farmers and villagers not all vehicles. Remember even alternative roads will make you spend your saving on fuel. I tried that in South Africa and we even got lost, ran out of fuel, landed on an extremely racist settlement who gave us matching orders.
Stop cheating people and just park ka vitz ako iwe. I thimk even the tolls we are paying are too low. Road tax makes you get on to the road within your town but once you get on to a trunk road its a different story.

    • New Educated Zambia©√   April 9, 2016 at 10:09 am

The question has been answered and yet you choose to be ignorant deliberately. Making a decision of this nature requires a thorough cost benefit analysis which should give justification for charging people.
