Chief Mukupa Kaoma of the Lungu speaking people in Northern Province and two of his subjects have been killed by an angry mob in Mpulungu District following a succession dispute.
And six people have been apprehended in connection with the murder of the Chief and two of his subjects.
The incident happened yesterday in Isoko Village in the outskirts’ of Mpulungu town.

Northen Province Police Commissioner Bonney Kapeso when contacted reffered quries to police public relations unit in Lusaka.
The Chief is reported to have travelled to Mpulungu from his palace in Mporokoso District to assume the throne of Senior Chief Tafuna of the Lungu speaking people when he met his fate.
Mr. Sikazwe said some irate Isoko villagers opposed to Chief Mukupa Kaoma’s leadership descended on him and his group.
Mr. Sikwazwe explained that the bodies of the deceased have since been taken to Kasama General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sikwazwe says calm has returned to Isoko village in Mpulungu following Thursday’s clashes.
For some time now, a succession dispute has been brewing among the Lungu Chiefs following disagreements on the rightful heir to throne of Senior Chief Tafuna in Mpulungu District.
