The Constitutional Court has adjourned the inter-party hearing in the petition in which UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has challenged the declaration of President Edgar Lungu as the winner of the August 11th presidential election has been adjourned to tomorrow.
This is to allow lawyers for the respondents to be served with the petition.
The respondents in the petition are President Edgar Lungu and the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Mr Hichilema through lawyers last Friday successfully filed in a petition, stopping president Lungu’s inauguration which was scheduled for tomorrow Tuesday,23rd August,2016.
The UPND leader is alleging irregularities in the presidential election results which saw President Lungu declared winner with 50.35%.
The main hearing of the petition is expected to commence later this week.
Meanwhile the petitioners, UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Geoffrey Mwamba have filed a preliminary application for ballot papers and other election materials to be in the custody of the court.
They are asking the court to order the Electoral Commission of Zambia to deliver the materials into the court’s custody.
