The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) says no one should celebrate the unsuccessful vote on the referendum because the expanded Bill of Rights wasaimed at enhancing the social and economic rights of the citizens.
The total number of votes cast in the national referendum held alongside the August 11 general elections was less than 50 percent of persons entitled to vote for it to hold.
Those who voted “Yes” were 1,852,559, while the ‘No’ vote had 753,549 votes with 739,363 rejected votes. Despite the “Yes” being overwhelming, the total number of votes cast needed to reach the 50 percent threshold for the whole referendum vote to stand
