Zambia’s Boxing Icon Joseph Chingangu Remains Languishing in Jail

FORMER national heavyweight champion, Joseph ‘No Pressure’ Chingangu yesterday pleaded not guilty in the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court.
Chingangu, 52, of plot number 12 flat one and a businessman, pleaded not guilty to one count of house breaking contrary to section 301(a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars are that Chingangu on March 19 this year with intent to steal, did break and enter into a dwelling house of Joseph Lupenga.
The former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior heavyweight champion appeared before Magistrate Greenwell Malumani after 12:00 hours and told the court that he understood the charge after it was read to him.
The matter has since been adjourned to April 12 and 19 this year for commencement of trial.
Chingangu remains in detention.
In February last year, Chingangu was arrested for theft of motor vehicle, a case that was dismissed by the courts after the witness failed to show up.
Then in August, he was lynched at the University of Zambia for allegedly trying to steal laptops from students at the institution.
