ROCKVIEW UNIVERSITY EXPOSED: ‘They Advertise Courses They Don’t Offer Then Get Away With K250 Form Fee’

Dear Editor,
Zambia has seen the mushrooming of colleges and universities in the recent past, and many of these are backyard institutions set up by money-hungry fraudsters who’re ready to swindle as many vulnerable and unsuspecting members of the public as possible. Some aren’t registered with the Ministry of Higher Education and some are offering programmers not approved. One of the fraudsters is Rockview University, formerly known as Rockview Teachers’ College, main campus located behind cross roads mall in Twin Palm, former offices and classes were at 3rd floor Provident house along Cairo Road next to Bank of Zambia. This money-hungry university ran an Advert on TV1(October 2016) that they were enrolling for January 2017 intake in programs inclusive of nursing, clinical medicine general (degree and diploma) and they’d conduct scholarship interviews on 26th , 27th and 28th Dec 2016 at their former residence.
To everybody’s expectation there were oral and written tests, however to the shock of many, the written test comprised 10 English questions, 10 Math, and 10 General knowledge + writing a page explaining why you want to become a nurse or clinical officer.
That is not shocking, what was shocking is that the test was to be written under 30mins! YES 30 minutes! Imagine 30 questions full page essay in 30mins, who can do that? and the threshold for clinical officers was 85% ,I could say no one even answered half of the total mark….and surprising enough these chaps were ready to give the applicants acceptance letters for nursing(which is the only course they had under health but lied about clinical officers courses and NEVER conducted any scholarship interviews…After a critical thought about it, a certain applicant confronted them on mobile and they actually ‘apologized’ for deliberately swindling them their k250s they paid for the form and interviews combined, yet this institution has gained publicity thanks to ZNBC’s KGMZ, Smooth Talk etc…..the tutors and stakeholders of this school are petty thieves!

This is very very serious, can the Anti corruption team move in and arrest the culprits and bring them to justice. Yes, a lot of make shift Colleges and Universities are doing the same, very very unfortunate indeed. May i suggest something, can the Government scrap off or regulate these fees, eg interview fees, participation fees, and application fees in all registered institutions in order to protect the vulnerable youths from being exploited by these unscrupulous people. Please Minister of Education this is your job and not the president’s job. I expect you to respond unless you not interested in your job.

Even the name itself tells, as if it is a name of a lodge. Let the TCZ work hand in hand with the ACC to end such nonsensical institutions.

What is the rationale for paying K250 for application forms and interview. Interview for a job costs nothing and yet one is being interviewed to enter the world if work. There needs to be a ceiling as to how much can be charged to offset administrative loses. If these charges are not controlled bogus money makers will be on the rise. If these guys interview 1000 students, they will make K250, 000.
