All eyes will this afternoon in the Magistrate Court be on Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja as he is expected to give more names of the Patriotic Front(PF) officials and cadres who pressurized him to arrest United Party For National Developed (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema and others on treason charge.
This is in a case in which Kanganja sued social media commentator Chilufya Tayali for defamation of character.
Tayali had posted on his Facebook page that Kanganja is inefficient and incompetent, who had put the life of the President in danger during the Kuomboka motor race saga, leading to Hichilema’s abduction from his New Kasama mansion.
During cross examination by Tayali’a lawyer Keith Mweemba, Kanganja told the court that the arrest of Hichilema came as a result of pressure from PF Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri and other PF cadres whom he could not figure out well.
The court ordered Kanganja to bring the names of the cadres who influenced him to arrest Hichilema, who has clocked over 110 days in prison.
However, the Police Chief did not attend court sessions yesterday on mutual consent. The case is back in court this afternoon.
