We are saddened by the Patriotic Front(PF) weak economic policy that is protecting government’s face by statistical growth at the expense of real growth that releases the quality of life of the Zambian people, says Daniel Mvula Shimunza.
Shimunza who is Movement for National Tranformation(MNT) founding president noted that the PF is practicing handbag economics because it prioritises maintaining the Kwacha against the Dollar exchange rates, without sustainable fundamentals of production, distribution and balanced consumption.
” Our observation is that the current economic structure and standing has caused suffering to the Zambian people through insensitive subsidy removals to the poor, wage freeze, job freeze,” the opposition leader said.
He regretted that since taking over power, the PF embarked on unsustainable infrastructure projects, new district, and over- spending.
Shimunza added that PF government has accumulated debt burden for over 7.2 billion dollars external debt and over 38 billion dollars domestic debt without sinking fund for Euro bonds and other hidden loans.
He expressed regret at the over- regulation by government on citizens in Agriculture, Health and transportation sectors creating a heavy burden economically on Zambians.
” The economic policies are outwards looking which weakens internal capacity building of liquidity and lending systems with banks,” the MTN leader said.
He said the industrialisation plans in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is unsustainable and not transformative due to outward centric approaches and focus.
“Fiscal discipline and unnecessary spending on priority areas is affecting economic growth like unnecessary foreign trips entourage, consulting for ICC and copy and paste from China and other places reduce inherent contextual planning,” Shimunza said.
He said the 7th National Development Plans(7thNDP) is not a vision for a country but a minimum bench mark that needs transformative leadership, not transactional leadership to implement.
“There is need for making policy reforms that promote citizens to participate in the Mining sector not foreigners
“The general outlook of the economy favors foreigners against Citizens.
The economy is under- performimg with ” false development projects” and un-real growth terms due to leadership incoherence, inconsistencies, incompatibility, and incompacity to meet short, medium, and long term economic goals,” Shimunza said.
” Government must develop a coherent professional approach not Caderism to economic governance best practices.
The PF party and government must be separated and not inter-twined for economic efficiency,” he said.
