The 2017 Chimanja Ward by-election has been the bloodiest in the history of ward elections in the country  but UPND will not be intimidated, Nkumbula Hamusokola has charged.

Hamusokola who is UPND CHIMANJA Ward Candidate Nicolas Katampi’s  campaign manager said the by-election has experienced alot of violence because it is taking place few kilometres from the capital city,Lusaka.

He said  PF know that they are loosing grip in Lusaka so they have resorted to violent means.

“Reports in Richard Sakala’s Daily Nation Newspaper that it was the UPND that provoked PF cadres to a fight are false.”Hamusokola said.

He explained that the PF went to disrupt a rally after realizing that some of its members were defecting to the UPND.

“That we caused a fight as reported in Richard Sakala’s newspaper is not true. One of the PF members Lukas Mtonga including others who defected to UPND were beaten up badly because the PF cadres did not want them to defect. Let us learn to report objectively”Hamusokola stated.

Recently, UPND National Youth Spokesperson Gilbert Liswaniso commenting on the violence which happened in Chimanja said that his party shall defend itself saying that enough is enough.

“We want to warn the PF cadres that should they attack us again and infact going forward we shall defend ourselves because we cannot report to the toothless Zambia Police which in our view is arming the PF cadres who are literally thugs”Liswaniso emotionally said.
