Retired National Heavyweight Boxing Champion Francis “Galagata”Zulu says he has no intention of going back to the ring.
Reacting to calls that he should return to competitive boxing, Galagata said he has hanged his groove and does not expect to make a comeback.
“Yes,many boxers have approached me asking me to make a comeback but I can’t. I have moved on. I had my time but now I have to leave the sport to young ones,” he said.
Asked whether he can fight given an opportunity, Galagata said he is still a strong fighter.
” I retired when I was National Heavyweight Champion. I was not sent into retirement after being beaten. I am a strong fighter but this time it is for self defense. I can’t do competitive boxing. I have left it to my son Francis Zulu Jnr. He will continue where Ieft,” Galagata said.
Galagata said he is using his retirement period to promote boxing in the country.
The former boxer said he currently has a number of young boxers whom he is naturing into accomplished fighters.
” The future of boxing is bright in the country. Stakeholders should fund the sport so that it graduates to acceptable standards, ” Galagata said.
