Gospel Musician Abel Chungu Apologizes To Chapro But Issues Cloud Their Reconciliatory Meeting

GOSPEL artiste Abel Chungu has apologized to the Christian Arts and Promotions (CHAPRO) over his recent social media ourburst.
Abel, Ephraim and Kings ‘Malembe Malembe’ were some of the gospel artistes hired by CHAPRO to be the ‘supporting artistes’ during the gospel concerts graced by Nigeria’s Sinachi at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka and  Levy Mwanawasa Stadium  in Ndola between October 7 and 8, 2017.

But Abel a few days after the show took to Facebook— complaining bitterly in a video statement that CHAPRO failed to fulfill the terms they had agreed upon. CHAPRO also released a video statement in which they responded to the allegations made by the artiste.

But after about a week of this ‘cold war’, a meeting between CHAPRO, Abel, Kings ‘Malembe  Malembe’ and Ephraim was arranged. It was during this meeting that Abel apologized to Chapro and went on to pull down from his Facebook page the video footage in which he made damning allegations against CHAPRO.

“Abel actually came here with his uncle to discuss the matter. But we told him off that what he did was not fair. How can he accuse us of those false things? We had an agreement with him to pay him a total of K24,000. The agreement was that K12,000 was to be paid here in Lusaka before the Heroes Stadium concer and we did that. And the other money was supposed to be paid in Ndola. But we were surprised that even before he could perform here in Lusaka, he started demanding the other K12,000. When we refused to do that, he went to social media to lie about us,” revealed a source from within CHAPRO.

The source added that during the ‘reconciliatory’ meeting, Abel asked to paid another K6,000 but CHAPRO refused.

“In the meeting with his uncle, he said we should give him K6,000 from the K12,000 balance we were supposed to pay him after performing in Ndola had he gone to perform. He said he deserved the K6,000 because we used his images to advertise the concert. But we told him that since we already gave him K12,000 initially for the Lusaka concert where he didn’t even perform, he should get K6,000 from the money we already gave him. So, its actually him who is owing us K6,000. So, we told him to refund us this money. He is yet to,” the source revealed.

And on Kings’ and Ephraim’s payment, the source revealed that the duo were also paid half in Lusaka as the agreement stipulated.

“Days before the show, Ephraim was in the United States. He phoned us to say ‘look, my wife is expecting a child very soon and she needs money for this and that. So please give her the money.’ So we gave his wife K6,000 and Ephraim got the other K6,000 when he returned. But today, we are surprised to see that Ephraim is conniving with Abel. We gave Ephraim the air tickets to Ndola but he didn’t come to Ndola. When we asked him where he took the tickets, he said he gave them to some ushers. But the story on social media is that we failed to buy air tickets for them. This is not fair,” complained the source.

The source added that CHAPRO was also not happy with Kings’ decision to tell First Lady Esther Lungu that CHAPRO were bad show organizers.
“In Ndola, Kings came. But live on stage with the microphone on, this Kings went to the First Lady telling her that ‘Mayo Nga teimwe ngashachisako kuno. Aba bantu tebeshibe efyo balechita ( Ma’am, had it not been for you. I wouldn’t have come here. These people don’t know what they are doing). We had to ask the technical guys to switch off his microphone because ngatwalisebana. We paid Kings but why did he say that.

Furncity wanted to grab the furniture he got there and he came pleading to us. So initially, we gave him K5,000 and the other monies later on. But he forgot about all that. This is not fair,” the source complained.

The source added that it was not possible for CHAPRO fail to pay the artistes.

“How can we fail to pay K24,000 to Abel when we spent more than K100,000 on air tickets for Sinachi. We gave Sinachi more than US$80,000. That’s the pay we gave her. So, how can we fail to pay K24,000? This is not fair. Its not good for we Christians to continue denting each other’s image in this manner. Let’s learn to be a brother’s keeper. This is not fair at all. I am very disappointed,” the source added.
