Amidst heavy sixteen (16) days of activism against gender based violence atmosphere, Zambian organization fighting against early child marriages, Musokotwane Compassion Mission Zambia (MCMZ) has come to the aid of an 18 year old child bride of Sinazeze village in Sinazongwe district after the villagers could not with stand any longer her abuser’s violent behavior and reported the matter.
The poor girl who received physical abuse coupled with emotional and mental trauma in an over one year of being married to her abuser has since been put under the care of Musokotwane Compassion Mission Zambia by the department of social welfare and plans to have her back in school are underway as she has already joined other girls in the organization’s ICT Project for girls retrieved from child marriages.
Musokotwane Compassion Mission Zambia (MCMZ) Executive Director, Mr. Genious Musokotwane has commended members of the public in Sinazeze village for rising against early child marriage and violence against women.
He adds that early child marriages are not only a violation against children but also a violation of any meaningful developmental agenda of a community through children.
He says MCMZ will continue to support girls at risk or retrieved from child marriage in order for them to realise their full potential and contribute positively to national development.
“We are committed as an organization to supporting these girls and provide them with a platform that enables them to survive, thrive and contribute to their personal and national development.” Said Mr. Musokotwane
Mr. Musokotwane also disclosed that the organization is handling a rare case of a 15year old boy who is a victim of exploitation from Chief Cooma’s chiefdom in Choma distinct.
“MCMZ is also handling a case of a 15year old boy who is a survivor of exploitation. This boy has not only suffered exploitation but also was at risk of early child marriages.” Says Mr. Musokotwane
He adds that plans are underway to reintegrate the boy and have him receive education support outside the organization facility.
“We believe boys too deserve the similar aid we are providing the girl child. We have plans to also empower this boy but it will be outside the organization facility.” Adds Mr. Musokotwane
And His Royal Highness Chief Cooma has commended Musokotwane Compassion Mission Zambia of its strides to end early child marriages in his chiefdom.
“Continue to help our chiefdom’s children, they are a lot of cases here and we are leaving no child marriage case unreported.” Says Chief Cooma.
Chief Cooma has been instrumental in the organization’s retrieval of over sixteen (16) girls in the year 2017.
