A WOMAN narrated before a Lusaka Local Court that her husband became suspicious each time she took a night bath as he suspected that she was sleeping around with other men.
This is in a case in which Nawa Siyondo, 49, of Garden House compound sued her husband, Nyambe Muleya, 66, a welder for divorce after separating for a week.
The two got married in 1985 and have six children.
Siyondo told Senior Court Magistrates Abbyshine Michelo and Esther Mulomba at Kanyama Local Court that problems started in April this year when Muleya stopped eating food from home.
She explained that on August 25, Muleya locked their bedroom subjecting her to sleep in the spare bedroom. She also said that Muleya took to beating her on many occasions.
When the court asked the reason he beats her, Siyondo said that he beat her because she took to bathing at night and he suspected she was doing something bad behind his back.
“Muleya pulled my hand almost removing it from the body and when beating me he uses objects,’’ said Siyondo.
In defence, Muleya said that he pulled Siyondo’s hand to take her to his friend whom she accused of flirting with their daughter, adding his wife left home on her own. adding that she was not seen until their appearance in court.
The court tried to reconcile them by giving them three months because 32 years in marriage was not a joke but Siyondo maintained that she wanted divorce.
The court granted divorce without compensation but Muleya was ordered to be paying child maintenance of K300 per month.
The court ordered that the house be put on rent and they would share the rentals equally.
