The Ministry of Transport & Communications has drafted five bills aiming at curbing social media abuse.
One of the bills will require that a person seeking to activate a newly acquired SIM card would have physically present the device to ZICTA for activation.
The other bill states that “when you buy a new phone and put a SIM card in it, it will not be activated until the phone is taken to ZICTA so that the institution can record the serial number”.
Other bill read “people who abuse social media will be caught unexpectedly and prosecuted”.
That is tantamount to curbing freedom of expression. Why bringing draconian laws to a democratic country?
The Bills are fine for so long as you are still in power. I wonder whether you will still be in favour of these Bills once out. Food for thought comrades or perhaps you do not think about tomorrow, huh?
