UNIONISED workers at the Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) have resumed work after a week-long sit in to demand payment of their October and November salaries.
Operations at TAZARA were last week adversely affected following the decision by unionized workers to down tools.
Crews and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CRAWUZ) Kapiri Mposhi district chairman Joachim Mulenga confirmed the employees’ resumption of work in an interview today.
He explained that the workers’ move to resume work followed the government’s decision to disburse K12 million to settle outstanding salary arrears for TAZARA workers.
“Yes, I can confirm that unionized workers have decided to resume work following the government’s decision to release K12 million meant to settle outstanding two months’ salary arrears to TAZARA workers,” said Mulenga. “The government released the money in the TAZARA account and today, the workers’ salaries have started reflecting in their respective personal bank accounts.”
