Society for Family Health (SFH) Choma District Programme Coordinator says there is need to consider reducing the age at which girls access family planning essentials without permission from their parents.
Choonza Mweemba explains that the fact that only those 18 years and above can access long term family plan essentials without parents’ permission is intimidating younger girls.
Mweemba says most young girls fail to confide in their parents and end up having unprotected sex.
He says this has led to an increase of teen pregnancies adding that this is why a bill in parliament should be proposed.
Mweemba explains that reducing the age of consent from parents will encourage young girls to access long term family planning methods.
