National Action for Quality Education in Zambia [NAQEZ] would like to commend the Examinations
Council of Zambia [ECZ] and the Ministry of General Education for the timely release of the 2017 grades 7
and 9 results. This is very progressive and we salute the two institutions for this great record.
Unlike in the past, parents will now have ample time to prepare for the first term in 2018.Previously,pupils
who made it to grades 8 and 10 were academically disadvantaged due to the fact that results used to come
very late.
NAQEZ heartily congratulates all grade 7 teachers and the pupils for producing 98.6%, almost 100%.This
national pass rate is very good especially that these exams were not marred with leakages. All the provinces
have produced 100% except Lusaka. We deserve an explanation from the Lusaka P.E.O for this least
performance. Lusaka is a region which should ordinarily be leading.
Despite some improvement in performance at grade 9, from around 49.5% to 52%, we find it very difficult to
congratulate those who have made it to grade 10. These exams lacked credibility due to rampant leakages.
It is hoped that the Ministry of Education and the ECZ will eventually find practical means and ways of
curbing leakages at grade 9 level.
