Lusaka, Zambia, 21st December 2017 – We want to make a clarion call on National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Hon Chishimba Kambwili to desist from politics of provocation and character assassination.
He must be reminded that there are millions who believe in President Lungu’s development agenda for Zambia and not all of them will take kindly to Mr. Kambwili’s insults of the Head of State. He must blame himself should he reap more than he has bargained for. Once the people respond, he must not call them as aggressors – “malibu yakuilombela”, he’d have received his deserved dues for his provocative politics.
We believe Zambians are demanding for mature politics and will not settle for anything less. The leadership of political parties must ensure that their respective campaign machineries focus on selling brilliant and positive life changing ideas and policies of their parties to the electorate as opposed to preaching hatred and bitterness.
Zambians must therefore reject cheap populists who believe character assassination is the way to go in politics. Zambians want to listen to alternatives and not who insults the President the most. If Mr. Kambwili was wiser, he would have known insults against President Lungu will not make him realise his political ambitions. On the contrary, insults against President Lungu will win the Head of State more sympathy because Zambians know that he is delivering.
We therefore caution Kambwili as leader of NDC and the Opposition in general to engage in politics devoid of “character assassination, use of hate speeches inciting one tribe or one party against another” if the Country is to consolidate the Democratic gains it’s made so far.
Mr. Kambwili, in his capacity as NDC leader, must be reminded that political leadership comes from God and that political power should not be a do-or-die affair or winning power at all cost. We have a country and posterity at stake.
It is our hope that the NDC leader will learn one or two new things during this festive period. 2018 should see politics devoid of hate speech and intemperate language.
