POLICE on the Copperbelt have confiscated five automated shotguns allegedly used by three Chinese in a shooting incident at Ebenezer mine in Lufwanyama. Copperbelt police commissioner Charity Katanga has confirmed the development.
She said the police have since recorded a warn and caution statement from the three Chinese.
“The police were led by the victims to the scene of the crime. The police did investigations. The police recorded a warn and caution statement from the Chinese nationals who fired the gunshots. Five automated shotguns were retrieved by the police for further investigations,” Katanga said.
“We are yet to conclude investigations as the guns are under the ballistics for further investigations. A lot of issues were raised after the caution statement was recorded. But we can’t reveal everything. Investigations are on and we will give you the details once we conclude.”
She said the police would only come up with a charge after investigations are concluded.
“So a charge against the Chinese and others will be made after the conclusion of investigations. For now, we are still investigating the matter,” said Katanga.
Copperbelt minister Bowman Lusambo, who visited the mine after the shooting, ordered the Chinese to report to his office for investigations of the incident.
