Street vendors in Lusaka are defying government’s directive for them to stop conducting business in the streets and have been spotted conducting business in the evenings when defense forces manning the streets leave the Central Business District.

A check last night around 20:00hours in town found vendors going about their usual business after the defense forces manning the streets left the premises.

And vendors talked to have challenged government to find them ways of feeding their families if they stop vending while others complained of lack of sanitation at Kanyama’s Chinika Secondary School football ground were they have been relocated to as an alternative trading place.
But local government minister Vincent Mwale has warned vendors against frustrating government’s effort in containing the cholera outbreak and has assured that military presence in the central business district will now be intensified 24 hours.
