Musenge: Miners Slaves Of Their Own Natural Wealth

NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) Mwenya Musenge says miners have become slaves of their own God-given natural wealth. And Musenge has advised President Edgar Lungu to take time and listen to complaints of Zambians.

In an interview, Musenge said miners in Zambia were not happy.

“The miners are not happy at all, they are seeing an influx of so many foreigners, not only the Chinese. Our people have become slaves in the mining sector, they have become slaves of their own wealth…foreigners have come and taken over the mines and enslaved them over God-given resources,” Musenge said.

“And it is sad that miners have been given meagre salary increments; I hear they have been offered a three per cent salary increment, while Chinese mining investors have refused to enter into any negotiations for improved conditions of service. This is very sad.”

He added that Zambian miners could not realise meaningful benefits out of their natural resources due to selfishness of government leaders. And Musenge said the PF leaders should not pretend that all was well in the coumtry.

“There is no way you can say that tuleteka bwino [we are governing well]…we don’t hate President Edgar Lungu; all we are saying is take time to listen to Zambian people and give a way forward,” said Musenge.
