Delta Energy Limited and Nerias Investments have teamed up to avail funds towards the fight against cholera.
Moved by the current spread of the cholera epidemic, the two Zambian owned companies are reported to have approached the ministry of health. It is understood that the said engagement was for purposes of understanding the greatest areas of need in the fight against the disease.
Arising from the engagement with health authorities, management of the two companies have agreed to make a donation of 2 million kwacha for the purchase of medical equipment and other supplies that are needed at the cholera center set up at the national heroes stadium.
The two companies have furthermore stated that their engagement with authorities have revealed the need for more resuscitation machines, infrared themometers, bp machines, gluco meters, nebulizers, emergency trolleys, blood gas analysers, among others. Other medical equipment to be purchased using the said funds include, cardiac monitors, ventilators, suction machines, oxygene concentrators and many other medical equipments.
Sources at the ministry of health have also revealed that this represents one of the biggest donations to have come from corporate players.
The Delta and Neria donation is also said to be timely as it give greater professional capacity to the medical team tending to patients at the cholera center housed at the national heroes stadium.
The two companies have also re-asserted that the donation comes against the backdrop of the moral obligation for corporate entities to promote the welfare of the communities in which they operate. The donation also goes a long way in supplementing the efforts that government has put in place in fighting the epidemic.
In attendance during the donation included; Mr Lloyd Kaziya Minister water sanitation and Environment, Minister in the vice President’s office Sylvia Chalikosa, Permanent Secretary Administration – Dr Malama ,Minister of Health Dr Chilufya and Minister of local Government Hon. Mwale.
Delta Energy was represented by its Liaison Manager Ms Bertha Kalongelwa and Neiras Investment by its General Manager Mr Martin Chaikatisha.
