The High Court sitting in Mansa last week sentenced a Zambia National Service (ZNS) Officer to 15 years imprisonment for defiling a 14 years old girl.

Appearing for sentencing before High Court Judge Mary Mulanda was Masuzyo Zulu aged 32, who was found guilty of defilement and convicted by the Mansa Magistrate Court.

Facts before the courts were that on August 6, 2016, the accused met the Minor around 19 hours as she was moving from her parent’s home to the place where she used to sleep.

It was then that Zulu dragged the minor into a one roomed house and had carnal knowledge of her the whole night and only released her at around 06hrs.

After the incident the minor went to her grandmother’s place who immediately noticed that her dress was stained with blood.

The minor told her grandmother that someone had slept with her the previous night.

The grandmother then informed the parents of the child about the incident and thereafter, the case was reported to police.

In his mitigation Zulu pleaded with the court to be lenient saying he was a first offender and remorseful for the act.

Judge Mulanda said she had considered all that the accused had said in mitigation and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment.
