Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Mwila has had to remind people questioning his credentials of the ruling party hierarchy that places him third in terms of ranking.
Mwila was responding to people questioning his having summoned acting Lusaka Mayor Chilando Chitangala over the demolition over structures for traders in Lusaka’s Kamwala area.
The PF Chief Executive Officer has ordered that the traders whose structures were demolished be compensated.
“I am the third most powerful person in the party. I am above cabinet ministers and mayors so what is the noise about my ordering the Lusaka mayor,” he said.
Mwila reminded everyone that he may not always throw his weight around but he has the authority to discipline even cabinet ministers.
He said that the council did not give the traders sufficient notice to the traders before demolishing their alleged illegal structures.
Mwila expressed anger at the manner the traders’ structures were demolished.
The traders comprise one of the PF’s strong support bases.
This is recipe for confusion. Yes Mwila can summon the Mayor but has to do so very privately. The mayor is an elected official and does not need to belong to the PF to continue in his role. Mwila on the other hand is unelected and is constitutionally unappointable to any ministerial position on account of the fact that he lost an election. A man stating the importance of his position either has a small penis or is not important at all.
