A 42 year old man of Nyimba district has been murdered after a dispute over a debt of five kwacha.
Eastern Province Police Deputy Commissioner Sharon Zulu says the victim, Richard Lungu of Chief Nyalugwe’s area was murdered by Lawrence Tembo aged 42 of Kawaza village.
Ms. Zulu says the incident occurred on Monday.
She says on the material day, Richard Lungu went to the house of Lawrence Tembo to demand for a debt of five kwacha.
Ms. Zulu says that when the suspect saw Lungu, he started running away trying to avoid him.
She says in the process, the deceased gave a chase and caught up with Tembo and produced a knife and attacked his debtor.
She says Tembo got hold of the deceased knife and squeezed his throat.
Ms. Zulu says Lungu died on the spot while Tembo sustained multiple stabs on his abdomen and that his intestines came out.
She says Tembo is currently admitted at Nyimba District Hospital while the body of Lungu is lying in the mortuary at the same hospital awaiting postmortem.
