STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT LUNGU’S RIGHT TO OWN LAND AND PROPERTY IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY

May 18, 2018

It’s unfortunate that some disgruntled opposition political party leaders have questioned President Edgar Lungu’s piece of land in the Kingdom of Eswatini, a special gift by his counterpart, King Muswati of that country.

President Lungu has the right to own the said piece of land in that country as there’s no law in Zambia that prohibits him to own land or other properties in a foreign country.

Indeed, President Lungu is not the first Head of State to own land in a foreign country: Almost all former Presidents owned land or other properties in foreign countries.

Further, even those that have raised eyebrows on President Lungu’s property in the Kingdom of Eswatini equally own properties in other countries.

As for the source of money to construct the house on the said piece of land, it’s naïve to suggest that President Lungu does not have well-wishers, like previous Presidents, who can fully fund the construction of the said project.

However, every Zambian is free to express his or her opinion on the subject in question, but there’s nothing sinister about President Lungu owning a property in a foreign country that came into his possession as a special gift to him.

Zambian DNA is alive to the fact that some opposition political party leaders are jittery of President Lungu’s popularity and are dead afraid to face him in 2021 election as they would be buried and defeated hence the desperation to accuse the President of wrong doing.

The opposition political parties will do themselves and the country a huge favour if they would concentrate on building their political parties especially after the resounding and humiliating defeat to PF in the recently held countrywide by elections, instead of making noise which seems to be their only talent.

We urge all Zambians to lend deaf ears to such baseless accusations against President Lungu, and support him as he delivers an all-inclusive development agenda to all parts of the country that is tailored not to leave anyone behind.
