Statement On Opposition Political Parties’Selfish Agenda To Oust PF From Power

May 28, 2018

Zambian DNA is deeply concerned with calls by some politicians to form a united opposition front in what appears be an ill-conceived and selfish agenda to oust PF from power.

Indeed, whilst opposition political parties have the right to form an alliance for a good cause, calls to form an opposition alliance with the sole purpose of unseating the governing PF is tantamount to being power hungry.

We’re of the view that forming a united opposition alliance should be based on the grounds that Government has failed to fulfil its campaign promises or improve the people’s welfare.

However, the governing PF has so far demonstrated to the Zambian people that they are working and a listening government in the few years they have been in power.

They have rolled out a robust infrastructure development agenda, introduced various citizens’ empowerment initiatives, and scaled –up a cash transfer scheme to thousands of vulnerable people in far-flung areas of the country and etc.

We advise opposition political parties to prove their relevance by providing checks and balances to Government, as a government-in-waiting, and not behave like rebel groups without a cause.

We urge Zambians not to entertain selfish politicians who are masquerading as ‘Messiahs’ yet their agenda is to ascend to power even without a vision for the country, but rally behind President Lungu and his working Government.

We are also appealing to President Lungu and other Government officials not to lend their ears to their detractors but remain steadfast as they deliver development to all parts of the country without leaving anyone behind.
