STATEMENT ON HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S ALLEGED CALL ON ZAMBIANS TO REMOVE PF GOVERNMENT BEFORE 2021

June 15, 2018

Zambian DNA is saddened by the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s attempts to incite the Zambian people to rise against their democratically elected Government.

Mr. Hichilema’s statement attributed to him by a known tabloid allegedly called on all Zambians to unite and remove the PF government from power before 2021.

It’s unfortunate that the opposition leader has continued to ignore that Zambia is a constitutional democracy, and not a ‘Kangaroo ‘State (where one decides when to remove one leader and install another).

It is indeed unfortunate that the UPND leader is making these statements when the Dialogue Process is about to begin. We are calling on all political party leaders to desist from issuing inflammatory statements that may scuttle or derail the National Dialogue Process.

However, the PF government is delivering on their campaign promises, and has made great strides in improving the welfare of the Zambian people.

We urge the Zambian people to ignore politicians who are agitating for a regime change before the PF’s five-year mandate they gave it to govern the country expires in 2021.

We advise Mr. Hichilema and other opposition leaders to focus on mobilizing their political parties so that they can challenge the incumbent President Edgar Lungu in 2021, and not short-circuit the process.

We are also appealing to President Lungu and other government officials to ignore the usual ranting of the opposition leaders and focus on rolling out the all-inclusive development agenda in all parts of the country.
