A TWENTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD woman of Kamwala South has lost her marriage after her husband discovered that one of the couple’s two children belongs to another man.Chongo Chola, 36, sued his wife Regina Kabwe after her boyfriend allegedly called and told him he is the father of the couple’s younger child.

Chongo told the court that Regina’s boyfriend called him in 2016 and told him that he was responsible for the pregnancy she was carrying.
When my wife told me that she was pregnant with our second child, I refused because her boyfriend had already told me he was reposnible. Later on, her boyfriend started callingand claiming the same child.

Our families have sat on several occasions but they have failed to resolve the matter,” he said.

He said problems in their marriage started in 2015 when they came from Luapula. She allegedly associated with bad company and started receiving phone calls from different men and insulted him every time he advised her. Chongo pleaded with the court to grant the couple divorce because Kabwe has a child with another man.

But Kabwe refuted the allegations and told the court that Chongo is the father of the child. “My husband is already married to another woman, he does not support me and my children. We have to struggle to have a meal. I don’t know anything about the man he is talking about because he is the father of both my children,”she said.

Kabwe told the court that five months of separation was long enough and that she can not reconcile with her husband.Facts before the court were that the two got married in 2011 and have two children together. Bride price was paid.

In passing judgment magistrate Lewis Mumba granted divorce on grounds that both parties were not willing to reconcile.
The court also ordered Chongo to compensate Kabwe with K8,000 and pay K300 monthly for child maintenance.
