Court Jails 18-Year Old Zambian Juvenile For House Breaking

The Choma Magistrates Court has sent an 18 year old Juvenile to Katombola Reformatory School for House Breaking and Theft Contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

The Juvenile is jointly charged with persons known of breaking into Iwana Mhango’s house in Riverside and stealing a Laptop and two Electronic Tablets all valued at K7, 800.

The court also learnt that the Juvenile was once convicted by Resident Magistrate Mupemo Phiri for the same offence last year and served a 90 days Community Service.

Social Welfare Department Probation Officer Kazembe Zyambo reported that the Juvenile is physically and mentally fit, but decided to run away from home despite living well with his parents.

Kazembe said the Juvenile stopped School in Grade Nine in 2016 and his parents have tried to help him reform but he seems incorrigible.

The Officer recommended that the Juvenile be sent to Katombola Reformatory School so he can reflect on his life.

Despite the Juvenile asking for forgiveness and vowing to avoid bad company, Magistrate Muyambango Munukayumbwa upheld the recommendation of the Probation Officer.
