FOUR people died on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred yesterday at 13:00 hours at Kashitu area on the Ndola highway.
Involved were three motor vehicles, a Toyota Corolla which was being driven by Justine Mugala aged 24 of Chingola with four passengers on board, a Tanzanian Scania Truck being driven by Hatibu Chombo aged 30, a Tanzanian national and a Volvo truck which was being driven by Fanwell Phiri aged 40 of Lusaka’s Garden House.
According to Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Corolla was overtaking improperly thereby hitting into the Tanzanian Scania Truck leading the driver of the truck to lose control and hit into the Volvo truck.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla and three of his passengers identified as Mwamba Mugala, Pathias Mugala and Clever Musonda all died on the spot and the bodies are in Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital mortuary while one other passenger identified as Afelo Mwanza aged 33 of 10 miles in Lusaka sustained serious injuries and is admitted to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital.
The driver of Scania Truck sustained a cut on the head and is admitted to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital while the driver of the Volvo truck escaped unhurt.
