Tragedy After Church Food Poisoning

ONE person has died while eight others are admitted to Mpongwe Mission Hospital after they consumed a local brew called munkoyo suspected to have been poisoned.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga said 13 people were initially admitted to Mpongwe Mission Hospital on Saturday after consuming the brew at a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church gathering on Saturday at Ibondwe in Mpongwe’s Nshingwe area.

Mrs Katanga said in an interview yesterday that Michael Mainza, one of the 13 people who drank the local brew, died in hospital on Monday.
“There was a suspected food poisoning incident at the SDA Church gathering. Some people drank munkoyo and 13 of them were admitted to hospital.
“One of the affected people died on Monday and as of today [yesterday], four have been discharged while the rest are still in hospital,” she said.
