Kapiri Toll Plaza Gets K24m

THE National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has released K24 million for the completion of Manyumbi Toll Plaza on the Kabwe-Kapiri Mposhi road.
In March last year, Government terminated Nzovu Transport Enterprises Limited’s contract for allegedly failing to complete the project within the contractual period.
NRFA chief executive officer Wallece Mumba said the Road Development Agency (RDA) has since engaged Luvias Limited, another local contractor, to complete the stalled works at Manyumbi.
“From the time the contract was terminated, motorists have been subjected to driving through the detour which is not comfortable but we want to ensure that works are completed before the onset of the rains.
“The contractor is expected to move on site this month-end to complete the works comprising the conventional toll plaza canopy, driving bays, offices and approach roads,” he said.
On the dilapidated Kafue-Mazabuka road, Mr Mumba said RDA is undertaking detailed road designs.
“Currently, there is a contractor carrying out patching of potholes and some maintenance works for easy movement of vehicles. But going forward, there will be need for full rehabilitation works to reduce transit time and improve safety on the road,” he said.
Mr Mumba said NRFA has continued to disburse funds to RDA and various councils countrywide to undertake pothole patching.
“We want to assure the people that their complaints don’t fall on deaf ears. Where full rehabilitation is required and designs are not ready, we are trying to mend potholes to ensure passable conditions on the road.
“The NRFA is utilising funds collected from road tolling to finance various road projects across the country in a transparent and sustainable manner,” he said.
