A THIRTY-TWO -YEAR- OLD man of Jack township has deserted his home after his wife allegedly stabbed him with a knife. Dester Songolo has pleaded with the Chawama Local Court to grant the couple divorce because he is scared of losing his life. He told the court that his wife, Abigail Songolo, has on three occasions threatened to stab him.
“Whenever we quarrel, she gets a kitchen knife and threatens to stab me. I can no longer sleep peacefully because I am scared of losing my life. Last time I woke up and found her with a knife,” Dester said. He says his wife is violent and jealous to the extent that she monitors all his phone calls.
Dester told the court that he has lost love for Abigail and that he can no longer live with her.
“She tells me that her family forced her to get married to me. She has been breaking my phones and I am tired of this kind of behaviour,” he said.
And in her defence, Abigail, refuted the allegations and told the court that her husband deserted the matrimonial home without proper reasons.
She said he packed his clothes and left on the pretext that he was going to Mongu for work.
Abigail also told the court that Dester has been telling her that he wants to marry another woman. The problem in my marriage began in 2018 when my husband stopped buying food and supporting his family. He goes out of town for work and does not leave any food or money,” she said.
Abigail was testifying in a case in which she sued Dester for marriage reconciliation. The two got married in 2012 and have two children together.
Magistrate Nancy Ngoma, in passing judgement, dismissed the claim for reconciliation
