NDC Appeals to US Govt not To Cut Aid

The opposition National Democratic Congress NDC is appealing to the American government not to cut Aid to Zambia.

Yesterday us State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert revealed that Zambia risks losing aid from the us government following the forced deportation of Zimbabwean opposition politician Tendai Biti.

NDC Secretary General Mwenya Musenge has agreed with the U.S government that Zambian authorities mishandled the matter involving Mr. Biti.

He says Zambian authorities should have allowed Mr. Biti a senior figure of the opposition movement for democratic change (MDC) party to exit Zambia to a country of his own choice.

Mr. Musenge has expressed fear that if the Americans cut aid to Zambia, ordinary citizens will suffer as it gives Zambia in excess of over three hundred million U.S dollars annually to various sectors in terms of support stressing that Zambia cannot afford to lose such support.

Mr. Musenge has however urged government to apologize to the international community for mishandling the matter involving Tendai Biti.

Meanwhile Mr. Musenge has called on government to stop interfering in the internal political problems of the Congo saying DRC is a sovereign state and there is no need for this country to direct encroach in their internal affairs.

He is confident that Congo has competent governance institutions to resolve any perceived problems in that country.
