Zambia is among the top eight countries prioritized for Chinese investment in local manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.
This was announced at the just ended Pre FOCAC high level meeting on deepening China-Africa health cooperation.
And a leading Chinese pharmaceutical firm, Fosun Pharma, has donated drugs worth over K2 Million to Zambia towards enhancing the country’s effort to combat Malarial infections.
Meanwhile Zambia and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaboration in malaria elimination.
And another MOU is on the score cards on broader government to government interface on infrastructure and medical equipment, human capital development, E-Health, solar power for health and pharmaceutical production.
Zambia’s Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Chitalu Chilufya shared progress on Zambia s health transformational agenda and pinpointed areas for possible collaboration with China in his address at the high level meeting.
Dr. Chilufya said Zambia, under the able leadership of His Excellency, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has placed premium on the health of the citizens focusing on building robust health systems.
Dr. Chilufya said government remains resolute towards ensuring the delivery of universal health coverage for all using an integrated primary health care approach.
He said Zambia has already started integrating health in all policies to address the social and commercial determinants of health.
The meeting, which was organized by the National Health Commission of China, and supported by UNAIDS and WHO, in Beijing, China was being held from 16th to 21st August, 2018 and will feed into the Heads of State summit on the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation(FOCAC).
