Mr Chanda had promised to empower women with cash capital for raring chicken and fulfilled his promise in Kamulanga Compound and fulfilled his pledge through Mr Kope.
Through Mr Kope, the UPPZ released money for the chicks and promised to continue funding the project until the chickens are ready, a rare gesture by the party which is still in opposition.
“Ba President Chanda bafikiliza promise yokuchitani empower . Bachosa ndalama zogulila ma chicks. Kwasala kugula feed navina visa kokapo,” Kope told jubilant women in Nyanja literally translated as(President Chanda has fulfilled his promise of empowering you, women of Kamulanga Compound. He has released money for the purchase of chicks and will continue funding the project until the chicken are ready,” he promised.
Mr Kope said it has always been Mr Chanda’s wish to empower the women having been raised by a single female parent.
And receiving the donation, the women thanked Mr Chanda for the gesture.
They pledged unsolicited support for the UPPZ president ahead of the 2021 elections.
They complained that despite voting for the PF, they continue languishing in the pits of poverty.
“Ine pano nezeli supporter official wa PF pa ward level but kulibe vemene banichitila. Nikala munyumba ya lent neyeva nyumba yakaena ni ka one room, koma beve bakulubakulu bamanga ma mansions. Tayamikila kuli ba Chanda ndipo bapitilize kutandizila bosauka makamaka ba kazi,(I was a PF supporter at ward level here in Kamulanga Compound but there is nothing the PF has done for us. I am living in a roomed house while our leaders are building mansions. We thank Mr Chanda for what he is doing for the women. We would like him to continue empowering the poor” she said, adding(Ise bena vikwati vesekufuna kusila mulandu wa PF. Sitenze ngona pachipani ichi(Some of us almost lost our marriages because of PF we never used to sleep).
Mr Kope went to meet another women group in Jake Compound, few kilometres from Kamulanga Compound.
The UPPZ Spokesperson who was in a company of journalists bemoaned the poor road network in the area where Mr Lungu lived before he became President.
He said the place was supposed to be developed considering that one of the residents is now Head of State.
Mr Kope took time to explain the party’s land policy and the developmental projects it has implemented while serving in opposition.
He said it was the party’s desire to empower every Zambian with land, charging that it is an acceptable that over 55 years after independence, some Zambian do not own land.
Mr Kope explained that the party has built a bridge in Chipangali Constituency and a Clinic in Chikankata District, Southern Province despite resistance from the PF Government. He added that over 400 women in Kamwala South have received empowerment from the UPPZ.
“He(Mr Chanda) is building a bridge in Chipangali Constituency despite the UPPZ candidate not winning the recent mayoral by-elections,” he said.
When the PF moved in to chase vendors, Mr Chanda called the affected to empower to the secretariat and empowered them with school books and other neccesities” he said.
Mr Kope told the group to organise themselves and come up with the project they would want the party to finance.
The group told him that they will get back to him as soon as they decide the project they would like to undertake.
The women pledged to work together and ensure that they push Mr Chanda to State House in 2021.
“If he can be so helpful while in opposition, what if he becomes Head of State? We are tired of renting, we want someone to empower us with land,” the 2018 Chilanga Constituency by-election candidate said.
