Government has revised upwards the minimum wage for domestic,shop and general workers in the Country effective 10th September 2018.

Domestic workers who were earlier earning a gross pay of K5, 22.4 will now be getting a gross pay of K993.60 per month.

Highest paid shop workers that were being paid the gross pay of K2, 372.12 will now be getting a monthly gross pay of K3, 558.9 while the highest paid general workers will now be getting K3, 151.61.

vlcsnap-0996-07-05-09h47m45s479Announcing revised minimum wage at a media briefing in Lusaka, Labour Minister Joyce Nonde Simukoko said the new minimum wages are meant to achieve governments efforts to alleviate challenges faced by workers.

Ms. Simukoko says this is especially for those that are vulnerable to exploitation and those that are not represented by trade unions.

She states that her Ministry had embarked on a wide consultation through the tripartite consultative labour council to revise the minimum wage which was last revised in 2014.

Ms. Simukoko has told journalists that the revision of the minimum wage will now be done regularly.

She notes that this follows a provision in the draft labour code that will provide for a mechanism through the labour advisory committee.

Ms Nonde Simukoko has urged workers to familiarize themselves with the revised wages.

She has also warned the employers paying their workers more than what has been arrived at in the statutory Instrument against reducing their workers’ salaries.
