The Church should preach a Christ-centred message instead of focussing on miracles and material possessions. Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili has also urged the Church to uproot bad seeds amongst themselves through preaching of the truth.
She said the Church should focus on messages that will draw people closer to God and not to material possessions.
Speaking when she officiated at a leadership and couples conference at Deliverance Church in Lusaka’s Kalingalinga Township on Friday, reverend Sumaili said the Church should preach salvation and the true gospel that will help establish a kingdom mind-set and contribute to the positive growth of the Church.
She said the Church has a huge role to play in ensuring that its members portray the right conduct and draw more people to God. Rev Sumaili said fake prophets are denting the image of the Church by frustrating the work of genuine pastors and men of God. “The Church should start cleansing from within itself and then go out to the world and take a message that is Christ-centred. The Church must undergo transformation so that it reflects Christ’s character,” rev Sumaili said.
Deliverance Church presiding bishop Fortune Mwiza said the Church is concerned about alarming levels of fake men of God. “Most people have now lost respect for the Church because of the evidence of false prophets and fake men of God. We pledge to work with the Religious Affairs minister to ensure that men of God preach the right message,” bishop Mwiza said.
