Minister of Health Dr. Chitalu Chilufya says the construction of the Mini Hospital in Lupiya area and deployment of recently recruited health workers will significantly contribute to reducing maternal mortality.

Dr Chilufya said this during the ground breaking ceremony for construction of Lunchinda mini hospital in Lupiya area in, Chiengi District, Luapula Province. He says deployment of qualified human resource has started showing results.

Dr Chilufya says once the infrastructure is complete, expecting mothers will not travel long distances to seek for reproductive services.  The minister signalled construction works for four mini hospitals in Luapula Province namely Lunchinda (Chiengi) Chembe, Katungulu(in Kawambwa) and Kaishe (in Samfya).

The health facilities, which will have both In and Out Patient Departments, surgical services, maternity Annexe, theatre, ambulance and a dedicated solar power system, are part of 108 Mini Hospital project funded by NMS Infrastructure UK. Dr. Chilufya reiterated government’s focus to ensure improved health service delivery to all Zambians. Chiengi District Health Director Cardson Kabwe said at the same function that the district has this year recorded six deaths as compared to 15 cases in 2016 during the same period.

Meanwhile, Kawambwa central Member of Parliament Nickson Chilangwa appealed to the people in the area to support government’s development agenda. Mr. Chilangwa also donated 45 desks and books to Kapako Primary school where a newly build one by three classroom block was also commissioned in his constituency.
