THE Zambia national women’s team has been hit by injuries at the ongoing Cosafa Women Championship with skipper Misozi Zulu and midfielder Rhodah Chileshe ruled out of the final Group B match against Mozambique tomorrow
Coach Beauty Mwamba said Zulu and Chileshe suffered injuries in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Cameroon and will not be available for selection tomorrow.
Mwamba said the team would be able to feel the void left by the two key players that have played in both matches that Zambia has won.
“The team is okay though we have got some injuries on some of our key players starting with the captain Misozi Zulu. I do not think she will be able to play tomorrow (Tuesday) though we are still waiting for the report from the doctor,” she said according to FAZFootball.com. “Rhodah Chileshe, also our midfielder, is injured and has not been training from yesterday but the rest are minor injuries.
She said the team would not underrate the Mozambicans who suffered an 8-1 drubbing by Cameroon in their opening match but rebounded with a 2-0 win over Lesotho.
“It is very important because if we lose that match, we will not be able to progress to the next round. We need a win or draw it is very important for us to take it seriously,” she said. “We have been taking each game as it comes. Even Mozambique, they are not a pushover, if they managed to beat Lesotho 2-0, it means that they are a strong side. So we are expecting a tough match, we are not underrating them despite them having lost to Cameroon and we beat Cameroon.”
Zambia will face Mozambique at 15:30 hours at Wolfson Stadium while Cameroon will be in action at the same time with Lesotho to decide who carries the semi-final spot.
Games are being beamed live by Kwese TV.
