A twenty-eight-year-old wife of Kitwe has been dragged to court for divorce by her husband of 11 years after being impregnated by her lover.
Clifford Mwamba, 34, sued Beatrice Mubanga for divorce on grounds that she has been having an extra marital affair. Mwamba told the court that the two got married in 2007 and they have four children together.

He said the problem in their marriage is that his mother-in-law does not respect him and accuses him of not taking care of his wife. Mwamba testified before the court that the kind of treatment he receives from his mother-in-law has also made his wife not to respect him. He told the court that at one point, he overheard his wife telling her friend that she had an abortion after she discovered that she was pregnant for her lover.

“I am pleading .with the court to put an end to our marriage because I cannot be married to a woman who disrespects me by having an affair with another man,” Mwamba testified. And Mubanga agreed to her husband’s decision of getting a divorce and accused him of being a violent man. She said her husband has on several occasions threatened to kill her and that he at one time tried to stab her with a screw driver.

Mubanga said her husband is so suspicious of her moves and always suspects her of having extra-marital affairs with other men.
Ganerton senior presiding magistrate Mutono Banda granted the couple a free divorce after seeing that both parties contributed to the breakdown of the marriage.
