Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya (above) has called on health personnel countrywide to embrace research and provide evidence-based health care services to Zambians to keep abreast of global health practices. And Government has urged Zambians to uphold high levels of hygiene and strengthen cholera prevention measures.
Dr Chilufya said there is need for health personnel to move with changing global health practices to provide quality medical care to the citizens.
He said this in a speech read for him by Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of training Elwyn Chomba at the 35th graduation ceremony at Chainama College of Health Sciences yesterday.
“I would like to emplore health workers to use research skills to have evidence-based practice. Advancement in education is important in not only shaping your career but also improving skills and being abreast [of] new trends,” he said.
He urged the graduands to maintain high levels of discipline and ethical conduct so as to provide quality medical services in the labour market.
Dr Chilufya said the 280 graduands will go a long way in alleviating shortage of human resource in the health sector.
And University of Zambia (UNZA) vice-chancellor Luke Mumba commended Chainama College of Health Sciences for the role it has been playing in addressing the challenge of health personnel in the country. Professor Mumba said in a speech read for him by Dean of Students in the School of Medicine (UNZA) Ridgeway campus, Trevor Kaile, that there is need for Chainama management to expand infrastructure in order to enrol more students.
“I would like to urge management of Chainama College to collaborate with other health institutions to increase enrolment as a measure to address shortage of health personnel in the country. “Currently, Chainama College only enrols 150 students out of the targeted 300 due to inadequate infrastructure,” Professor Mumba said.
