ZAF Officer Caught With Leopard Skin Appears  In Court

A Zambia  Air Force (ZAF) flight sergeant has been taken to court for alleged unlawful possession of a leopard skin and pieces of ivory.
Saviour Kandala, 31, of ZAF in Kabwe, is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of protected trophy.

In the first count, it is alleged that on September 12 this year, Kandala had in his possession a leopard skin without a certificate of ownership. In the second count, it is alleged that on the same date, Kandala had in his possession 3.1kgs of ivory. The matter came up on Thursday for allocation before Lusaka chief resident magistrate Kenneth Mulife.

Magistrate Mulife referred the matter to magistrate Felix Kaoma’s court.  Meanwhile, a fisherman of Sinazongwe has been taken to court for unlawful possession of three crocodile skins. Milambo Mandanda is charged with unlawful possession of prescribed trophy. It is alleged that on August 27, this year, Mandanda, 43, had three crocodile skins without a certificate of ownership. The matter was allocated before magistrate Sheila Mweene.

In a similar matter, a Chinese has been taken to court for unlawful possession of pangolin scales. Cui Xiaogui, 34, is charged with unlawful possession of prescribed trophy. It is alleged that on August 22 this year, Xiaogui had eight scales of pangolin, an endangered species, without a certificate of ownership. This matter will be heard before magistrate Faides Hamaundu.
