The National Union for Small-Scale Farmers of Zambia (NUSFAZ) has asked government to bring social cash transfer looters to book.
Last month state house disclosed that Zambia refunded the £2.7 million to the British government which was meant for beneficiaries under the social cash transfer programme after the department for international development had requested for a refund following revelations of alleged social cash transfer abuse at the ministry of community development and social services which led to the dismissal of the Minister responsible Emerine Kabanshi by President Edgar Lungu.
Union director general Dr. Frank kayula has also criticized the government for its failure to bring order in the civil service sector.
Dr. Kayula says social cash transfer has proved to be an effective empowerment tool by providing necessary capital to allow beneficiaries to participate in other social services, including health care and education.
He has emphasized that all those who misappropriated the fund should be brought to book.
Dr. Kayula is encouraging government to stop being selective in dealing with cash gate cases as it should to deal with suspects of looting its watch, including those in the corridors of power.
He says as a country that is grappling with high poverty levels, it cannot afford to lose donors who have been supportive in the provision of social cash transfer in our continued bid to alleviate poverty.
