Zambia Working To Wipe Out Hunger

Zambia needs a clear understanding of the dynamics and interactions of food, nutrition and health systems to attain zero hunger. Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska said Government wants to see a Zambia where every citizen has access to basic needs by 2030.

Dr Msiska said addressing key socio-economic challenges that have prevented the country from achieving its development aspirations remains key.
He said this during the zero hunger strategic review validation meeting yesterday.

“Government is pumping in huge resources in food production, safety and post-harvest loss minimisation. We are mindful that our children in schools require access to adequate and nutritious foods particularly at primary levels through the school feeding programme,’’ Dr Msiska said. He said there is need to translate the potential the country has into actual food production and security.

Dr Msiska said Government has taken a holistic approach in building systems that support monitoring and evaluation programmes being implemented in various sectors by tracking their impact through Smart Zambia initiative. And World Food Programme (WFP) country representative
