A twenty-nine-year-old woman of Garneton township has testified before the local court how her husband of 15 years goes out in public announcing that she sexually starves him and accuses her of bewitching his sexual powers. Bethsheba Chipanta was testifying in a case in which she sued her husband, Bernard Kabamba, 32, for divorce on grounds that he is immature.
The two got married in 2003 and have three children together. Chipanta accused her husband of engaging her mother-in-law in their marital problems and that instead of her mother-in-law inquiring from her, she takes her son’s side.
She said her husband drinks beer heavily to a point where he goes out in public announcing that he does not meet with her and that he is unable to function due to her mischievous ways. “I am embarrassed to walk in public because of the shame that my husband has brought upon me and all I want is the court to grant us a divorce,” she said.
Chipanta also accused her husband of selling off the bag of mealie meal he buys for the family whenever the couple differs.
She told the court that she has tried to engage family members and the church to help them resolve their issues but that there has been no change from her husband. But Kabamba pleaded with his wife not to go ahead with the divorce because he loves her and does not want to see the children suffer if they are divorced.
He accused his wife of being proud and that he has no say in the home because she has a better job than him. Kabamba said he has now been with his wife for one year without sex because she tells him that he is a dirty man. He asked the court to reconcile them despite the problems they have.
And Garneton senior presiding magistrate Mutono Banda reconciled the couple after Chipanta agreed to the reconcilliation.
Magistrate Banda urged the couple to live in harmony and ensure that they settle their differences amicably.
