A 19-year-old man of Namwala district has allegedly shot dead his elder brother after he asked him to pay back K6,000 he owed him.
Austin Mwanamungalu of Mwanamungalu village shot his brother, Boyd, 33, around 01:00 hours on Sunday using a shotgun which he borrowed from Morris Kana, 49, of the same village.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police Diamond Likashi confirmed the suspected murder in an interview yesterday. Mr Likashi said details are that Boyd asked his younger brother to refund him his money. “The assailant then called the victim in the night to ask him what was happening at his maize silo barn. He then followed him there and shot him,” he said.
Mr Likashi said the matter was reported to police by their 72-year-old father, Bryson Mwanamungalu. He said police visited the scene and picked the body, which was deposited in Namwala Hospital mortuary. Mr Likashi said the deceased suffered head injuries as a result of the shooting.
He said the suspect and Kana are in police custody and will be charged with murder.
Mr Likashi said the duo led the police to the recovery of one shotgun and a round of ammunition belonging to Kana.
He said the suspects will appear in court soon. And in a suspected case of murder, a head teacher of David Munali Private School in Manungu Township in Monze district was discovered dead on Sunday.
Mr Likashi said Paul Auster’s body was discovered around 09:20 hours at the school behind one of the classrooms. He said Mr Auster was last seen on Friday, November 16, 2018 at about 12:00 hours. Mr Likashi said officers visited the scene and inspected the body and found no physical injuries on Mr Auster’s body. A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
