HH in Double Blow

THE Lusaka High Court has dismissed an application by opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema in which he wanted it to determine if his rights were violated when the Constitutional Court dismissed his presidential election petition.
In 2016, the Constitutional Court threw out Mr Hichilema and his vice-president Geoffrey Mwamba’s petition against President Edgar Lungu after the 14-day timeframe in which it was supposed to be heard elapsed.
Dissatisfied with the verdict, Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba went to the High Court claiming that his right to be heard was violated when the Constitutional Court dismissed the petition.
But the State filed a notice of motion to raise preliminary issues in the matter.
