ROAN PF member of parliament Chishimba Kambwili says the PF can win all by-elections because of corruption but that they can never win a general election.
And Kambwili says a by-election cannot determine the ruling party’s popularity, to the contrary, it just proves the corruption of the ruling party.
Speaking at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court after the case in which he is changed with forgery, uttering a false document and giving false information to a pubic officer was adjourned to today, Friday, Kambwili, who is also the NDC political consultant, said the PF must learn a lesson from the MMD.
He said because of corruption, the PF could win all by elections but they can never win a general election.
“You people you pretend as if you were not there, first and foremost, look at the trajectory of PF when it was formed. When we formed PF in 2001, we used to come number last, we used to lose all the ward and constituency elections, PF won its first ward election in 2004, four years after its formation…from 2004 things changed, we took over the entire Copperbelt Province, we took over the entire Lusaka, we took over Northern Province, we took over Luapula,” he said.
Kambwili said NDC’s participation in the by-elections was not to win but to plant the party.
“And NDC watch the space, our participation in these elections is not for us to win, we are planting the party, we are going to announce our existence in all the areas, but for PF, they are using corrupt money, they are buying people, they are going in the elections two days before elections, they take chibuku there, they take chickens, phones and everything. They can win, even you, you have never owned a phone, a villager in Mangango, they bring a phone and say ‘vote for us’, what would you do? But during the general elections, all the areas would be on their own. There would be nobody to take phones there,” Kambwili said. “PF in 2013, as ruling party won Mangango…in the general election we lost Mangango to UPND.”
He added that winning a by-election was not a determinant that the ruling party was popular.
“To the contrary, it just proves the corruption of the ruling party. So I wish Mwila [PF secretary general] very well, but you know, I have always said, Mwila is a very dull person so he can’t differentiate sense from nonsense, to him what doesn’t make sense makes sense,” he said.
